New U.S. Import Tariff Compliance Measures 2025

Effective February 4, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. EST, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will impose additional tariffs on imports from China. All such imports, regardless of value, will be subject to these tariffs, and shipments containing these goods will no longer qualify for the "de minimis" administrative exemption. 

In response to this policy change, Xafex will implement the following adjustments to our logistics services, effective February 5, 2025, at 3:00 a.m. UTC:

1. Additional Customs Clearance Fee: Due to changes in the import customs clearance model and a significant increase in clearance costs, Sourcing company will include an additional customs clearance fee of 3 USD per shipment for all U.S.-bound logistics routes.

2. Tariff Fees: For goods originating from China and destined for the U.S., Sourcing company will collect a 30% VAT(tariff fees). 

Please Note:

• The current policy is subject to change; further adjustments may occur.

• Due to this policy, delays in U.S. customs clearance are anticipated.

• The higher customs clearance fee is to ensure smooth customs processing; we have opted for a more secure, albeit costlier, clearance option.

Understanding the New U.S. Import Tariff

Key Policy Changes:

• Elimination of De Minimis Exemption: The previous exemption for goods valued under $800, such as the T86 clearance model, is no longer applicable.

• Additional Tariffs: Beyond the base duty rates, the following tariffs will be imposed:

  • Section 301 Tariffs: Applicable to specific Chinese products.

  • Sections 201 and 232 Tariffs: Targeting products like steel and aluminum.

  • New 10% Tariff: Applies to all goods originating from China, including Hong Kong.

We urge all customers to review these changes carefully and make the necessary preparations in advance.
